Washington Hit 5 Lottery Unclaimed $440,000 Worth Ticket is Nearer to Expire
A winning Hit 5 lottery ticket worth $440,000 is set to expire on Monday at 5 pm. This winning ticket was sold at a Safeway in Vancouver last year in October. The winning numbers—14, 21, 30, 37, and 39—were drawn on October 4.
Dan Miller, a spokesperson for the lottery, emphasized the importance of claiming prizes: “We really do want people who have paid for those tickets, and who might have a winner there, to be able to claim their prizes.”
Miller explained, “More often than not, we see one of two things happen: people know that they’ve won, and they come in right away within that first week after winning, or we see people wait until the very end.”
In addition to the $440,000 ticket, a few winning tickets valued at $10,000 were purchased in the Spokane area and are also set to expire in September. Winners in Washington have 180 days after a drawing to claim their prize; otherwise, the funds are transferred to a reserve account. While this account supports education in the state, Miller emphasized that the best cause is the people who win.
For prizes exceeding $600, winners should visit their nearest lottery office to claim their windfall. Those with tickets worth $100,000 or more are advised to call ahead and schedule an appointment to ensure a smooth claiming process. The Spokane office is located at 4750 N. Division St., Suite 1009.
Washington Lottery said “We encourage everyone to check their tickets, glove compartments, couch cushions – anywhere a lottery ticket might be hiding, make a hurry to claim the $440,000 prize otherwise ticket can not be claimed after Monday 5:00 p.m.
